A Right-Fit School for Your Teen

Are you working with a teenager to find the best-fit high school? It can be a difficult and frustrating task. A school that works well for one student may not work well for another, so how do you know how well a particular school will fit the teen in your life?

The search is real. Explore the unique education offered at Buckeye Community School (BCS), a tuition free public high school with locations in London, Mansfield, and Marion. Here are four key reasons that Buckeye may be the right-fit school for the teen in your life:

1 Flexible Scheduling

A traditional school schedule is very rigid; it does not allow for a number of life’s complexities. For working students, students who are parents, and students who have significant responsibilities at home, a rigid, traditional schedule can prevent them from completing their high school education. BCS understands the need for flexible scheduling, so we work with each and every student to create a schedule that is just for them. If that schedule needs to change over time as responsibilities and needs change, that is no problem for us. We continue to work with our students to meet their needs for a flexible schedule so they can meet all of their responsibilities and demands.

2 Unwavering Support

Students who have struggled to complete their high school education need to be seen, heard, and supported. That is why we have a significant number of staff that are dedicated to supporting the learning of each of our students. We meet with each student regularly to check on their progress and support them in all aspects of their lives. We offer practical help, like providing school supplies and meals. We also offer mental health support. It’s all part of our commitment to the whole student.

3 Individual Learning Plans

The first thing we do when a new student starts at BCS is get to know the person, their dreams, and their goals. We then work together to craft an individual learning plan specifically for that student. It will look different from the plans for other students because we know that each and every student at Buckeye is unique. Each student’s learning plan allows them to learn at their own pace in the way that works best for them. If a student needs to slow down the pace of some classes so that they can master the material, the plan allows for this. If a student wants to accelerate their pathway to graduation, we can work out a plan that makes that happen. It is all driven by the needs, goals, and abilities of each individual student.

4 Multiple Pathways & Practical Training

A high school diploma is a building block to college, career, financial stability, and security. There is not a single path to get there, nor is there a single path beyond high school. That’s why, at BCS, we have different options to help our students set themselves up for future success.

BCS has a variety of career tech programs, from automotive to construction, cyber security, health care, and more. Students get practical training, pass certification exams, and work in their chosen field  –  all while earning their high school diploma. For students who want to enter these fields, the CTE programs at Buckeye are top notch.

For students who are ready, BCS offers the opportunity to earn free college credits while they complete their high school education. Our dual credit program is a great way for students to learn more about what college courses are like and begin to earn credits towards a degree.

If you are helping a teen find a school that understands them, meets them where they are, and offers unwavering support as they complete their high school education and prepare for a brighter future, check out Buckeye Community School. We are enrolling now to meet the needs of students in the greater Columbus area.
