Fresh Start: Credit Recovery and Drop-out Prevention

You’re behind on school credits and not sure how you can possibly catch up. You feel like there’s no chance of graduating high school with your friends. Dropping out of high school seems like your only option right now. All you want is a fresh start. If you can relate, please keep reading. There is a solution for you. At Buckeye Community School (BCS) we specialize in credit recovery and dropout prevention, and we are a judgement-free zone.

We Work With You, And For You

The good news is, graduating from high school doesn’t necessarily equate to logging endless hours at a desk in a classroom. We work collaboratively to help you make a fresh start...especially if the traditional school setting hasn’t been working for you. If you need to work, or take care of family, or have other obligations, we can work together to find a way for you to get the work done and earn your diploma. Our students work on their time, at their pace.

Credit Flexibility = Life Flexibility

We have designed a Credit Flexibility plan to increase earned credits and to decrease the number of students who have to drop out. The core principles are:

● Credit for demonstrated mastery of learning outcomes regardless of seat time

● Process for documentation and approval of proposed experience or course

● Clear definition of responsibilities for students, teachers, and counselors

● Clear documentation and coding of credits granted through credit flexibility

The bottom line is, we can be flexible about how you earn your credits. You can take multiple courses at once, or you can focus on one course at a time and knock it out in 6 weeks. You can participate in one of our vocational programs and work towards certification, or you can focus on getting into college. Tell us what works for you and we’ll work to make it happen.

The state of Ohio offers community schools such as Buckeye as an option, so young adults aren’t forced out of the system because the structure of conventional schooling isn’t working for them. Tuition-free for Ohio students, these learning institutions are public, nonprofit, nonreligious schools that receive state and federal funds but are independent of traditional school districts.
